The Joy of Spirit Animals and Why You Should Follow the Signs...Spider Woman - Susan Seddon-BouletI am being hunted down by spiders. It has been happening for ten days. The thought of being hunted down by spiders may bring shivers to many of you reading this. Luckily, I am neither arachnophobic nor living in Australia (where it is just safest to assume everything with 8 legs is trying to kill you), so I find spiders quite friendly. However, over the last ten days they have become a little too friendly… It all started when I followed the instructions of my beautiful Soul Stories Calendar. I had noticed that May 16th suggested I ‘catch a spider and release it’ a few weeks beforehand, and it stuck in my mind that somehow on this day, I would have to find a spider in the house, and then rehome it gently outside. On Wednesday 16th, I went to work and I waited to find a spider to capture. They eluded me all day; I didn’t find one on my walk, in the bathroom, in the garden, in my car, nowhere. Until at 1:15am on my way down the hallway to bed, I was stopped in my tracks but a small dark shadow on the floor. Delighted, I captured my spider and as per the instructions set her free out the window. (If I’m honest, she escaped out of the container as I was transferring her to the window and so she may have ‘flown’ out along with the calendar she was sitting on, with a little less grace than you were thinking.) I checked and she had landed safely and happily on the windowsill. Task completed! Or so I thought… On Thursday night, at precisely 1:15am the same spider and I met again in the hallway. Had anyone been awake they would have heard me saying ‘Again? We had this discussion last night, I thought you liked the window sill?’ On Friday, I stepped out of the shower and picked up my dressing gown and a spider jumped out and ran away (he obviously likes hot pink fleecy gowns as well…) On Saturday, I noticed the dashboard of my car had been decorated in spider webs overnight. On Monday, I picked my towel up off the rack, and started drying myself, as I turned the towel around, a spider fell to the floor and sprinted for the door.
these spiders are presenting themselves as spirit animals and there is a message here I need to pay attention to.
I have a few spirit animals on a day to day basis, for example Magpies in both England and Australia. They follow me, they appear in threes, and stand there and watch me walk past merely centimetres away, they never swoop me and they are never startled by me (or the hairy and often boisterous four legged Golden Retriever I’m walking at the time). Butterflies are much the same, they fly along with me when I’m walking in either country, not just for a few metres, but for 200 or 300m floating about my person as I march along the street, field, track, they flitter around trees and bushes as we walk along, crossing the path in front of me and dancing in the breeze. How do I know they are my spirit animals? They turn up constantly, regardless of the season and the country! Curiously (& thankfully!), spiders do not hunt me down in Australia – but for the second year running in England they are following me closely upon my arrival. Spirit Animals come into our lives to bring a message, to demonstrate or indicate a strength we perhaps are not acknowledging or to bring awareness to a lesson or area of growth we need to take notice of. At different times during our lives, there may be a chance to take a different direction, or a time to make that choice, it is at these times that Spirit Animals can turn up to guide you or to signal that indeed it is time for change. They can turn up in the flesh or in your dream world, and if not acknowledged will continue to make their presence known until you pay attention. We are supported on this journey called life, in ways we are often too busy to notice. Our Spirit Animals are another small reminder that the universe has our back, it has the answers to so many of the things we spend hours worrying about or fussing over, it has the guidance we so often need when we are feeling lost, and the love we crave and seek in all of the places that continue to leave us feeling empty - if only we are willing to stop and take notice of their guidance. Your life and your time on the planet can be enriched, and it requires no financial investment, no new educational courses, no major sea changes, no image overhauls and no gym contracts you are not going to complete. On the contrary, it does require you spend a few minutes every day being present, conscious and aware of your world. Pay a little more attention to what surrounds you every day, and you are well on your way. In case you were wondering, Spiders as Spirit Animals are the ‘Life Spirit and Weavers of Destiny’; they represent the divine feminine and her creative energy, channelling patience, receptivity and the creation of new ideas. It is no coincidence then, they’ve hunted me down until I wrote this piece… For more information on Spirit Animals: http://foreverconscious.com/how-to-discover-your-spirit-animal http://foreverconscious.com/common-animal-messengers-meaning https://www.gaia.com/article/spirit-animal-meanings-fox-owl-wolf-bear-and-hawk Spiders as Spirit Animals: https://goodwitcheshomestead.com/2017/08/08/spirit-of-spider-animal-totems/
